New Fund Honors Jim MacMillan

Friends and family of Jim MacMillan have established the Jim MacMillan Music Award Fund in memory of his love of music performance and composition.  The award will help a young person further his or her own musical journey through classes, songwriting and composition camps and clinics, instruments or equipment and music therapy.

Jim was also a psychiatrist, and his own musical journey began in medical school, where he loved to jam with other musicians and began to find his own voice in composition. Upon settling in the Gorge, Jim joined open mic sessions and played with his trio at small venues.  He found meaningful relationships at song camps, especially Caldera and Hidden River, where camping, camaraderie, and original songs composed and sung around a campfire spoke to his soul.  Locally, Jim enjoyed singing with Voci Choir and served on the board and as president of the Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association.

Music was the most direct expression of Jim’s creative art and spirit. His quest for innovation lives in this music award.  It is designed to reward and energize original and authentic musical experience and honor Jim’s love of musical interpretation and performance.
